WE WERE HYPHY

WE WERE HYPHY

Oakland in the 90s was one of the most dangerous cities in the US. Hyphy was a musical movement that came from the streets but encouraged kids to “Go Dumb” instead of getting violent. WE WERE HYPHY explores the music that was the beating heart of Hyphy. The film interviews the uniquely charismatic musicians behind the music and looks at the dances, fashions, and culture spawned by their genius.
