Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipGUEST: I brought a baseball with a number of signatures from, I think, the '30s or '40s.
My grandfather got this when he was a kid.
His father worked at Fenway Park and Braves Field.
APPRAISER: You've got a lot of signatures, numerous teams.
The one that stands out to us is Babe Ruth.
GUEST: Of course.
APPRAISER: Who by that time had left the Red Sox to play for the Yankees and break the Red Sox' heart.
GUEST: Sadly.
APPRAISER: 86 years for the Curse, right?
And anything Ruth you can take to the bank.
It's just how big an account you're going to have, right?
Oddly enough, in our world, a Ruth single-signed ball is generally worth more than a multi-signed ball.
GUEST: Yep.
APPRAISER: Collectors, you want to have that one presentation across the sweet spot.
But if I was going to put an auction estimate on it, I would put at least $3,000 to $5,000 on this.
GUEST: Wow, pretty good.
APPRAISER: A single-signed Ruth ball from this era, depending on condition and where the signature is placed, can be anywhere from $5,000 to $500,000.
GUEST: Wow.
