HIT THE DARKNESS AT THREE AM AND LOOK WEST, BUT GET READY TO SPIN AROUND!
USE THE HANDLE OF THE BIG DIPPER AND ARC TO ARCTURUS, THEN SPIKE TO SPICA.
SPICA IS PART OF VIRGO, THIS LITTLE-KNOWN DIAMOND ASTERISM FORMS HER MIDSECTION HERE, BUT SHE’S LARGER THAN THAT ENCOMPASSING SEVERAL MORE STARS.
NEXT, LOOK FOR A BRIGHT ORANGE STAR TOWARD THE HORIZON ON THE LEFT, THAT’S ANTARES IN SCORPIUS THE SCORPION IN BETWEEN I THE VERY DIM LIBRA SCALES.
LIBRA USED TO BE PART OF SCORPIUS, BUT WAS LOBBED OFF TO BE THE SCALES OF ROMAN JUSTICE.
