We're here in Tacoma, where this weekend one of the largest running street fairs kicks off along 6th Avenue.
I'm talking about Art on the Ave 2026.
Art on the Ave organizers say they expect 20,000 people or more to attend the Sunday, August 9th event.
-Yeah, we're super excited for Art on the Ave 2026.
It's a huge undertaking.
It's Tacoma's biggest street fair, and we're really looking forward to present something with art and community for everybody in Tacoma.
-It began 26 years ago and continues to expand.
This year there will be five performance stages, four with live music and one for dance performances, a kids zone, and more than 200 vendors.
-And we have business owners in the district with their restaurants and bars, are having beer garden for the adults.
So a little bit of everything.
I think it's really important that we're doing this event in the capacity that we're doing.
There's so many people that we're catering to and giving an opportunity to sell their wares, sell their art, represent their business.
-Plan ahead.
Ten blocks of 6th Avenue will be shut down between State and Alder Streets.
-Parking for the event will be limited.
So if people live nearby, I suggest walk.
If you're going to park, expect to have to walk a little bit.
Park on the side streets and Pierce Transit number 1 will come to both sides of the festival.
-Organizers say this year's sponsor is TAPCO Credit Union, and a significant funding source to put on an event of this magnitude came from the city's Tacoma Creates voter initiative.
-People who have never come to Art on the Ave, I really suggest coming and checking it out.
It's a little bit of something for everyone.
Live art, music, people selling art, and it really represents who Tacoma is as a whole, and specifically the 6th Avenue business district.
-Next time we'll tell you about Tacoma area apartments that have recently voted to unionize and what it means for renters.
I'm Paris Jackson.
