Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWe started making this film because we wanted to show America what Baltimore was really like, that it wasn't just what you see on TV.
And that's why I wanted to make the film.
I think I realized we needed to make the film when George Floyd was murdered, right?
And it was quickly apparent that this wasn't just a Baltimore story.
This was a United States story.
This was a world story.
That whatever we were doing in this country wasn't working.
And what was about to happen in Baltimore with a change in leadership was something that needed to be followed to see how we're going to deal with these issues.
As part of the transparency that Brandon Scott wants to demonstrate while he's in office, he also wants to peel back the layers of what it's like, especially to inspire the younger generation to engage with their government, with their community.
We are part of this community and the film really is showing that it's not just one person that makes that change.
It's all of us together.
Any problem that's this big, that's this fundamental is going to take long-term holistic community-based solutions, right?
And you don't solve big issues with quick fix solutions.
