It goes from the northwest corner to the southwest corner and then it stretches about three quarters of the way to the eastern border of Colorado.
This 3rd district is so diverse.
You could say it's a purple district, but really there are more Republicans registered than Democrats.
This district has taken attention of the Democratic funding mechanism.
And they are looking now at saying, “oh, this is a district that could potentially be flipped.” The race this fall has incumbent Jeff Hurd, who is a Republican against Dwayne Romero from Pitkin County, who is interested in more progressive policies.
This race may or may not be a referendum on the party in power.
It's a toss-up and it's a toss-up with a lean Republican.
I've worked hard to be one of the more effective legislators in Congress focused on the economy, creating good jobs, lowering costs, making life better for families in western and southern Colorado.
I've gotten seven bills passed out of the House of Representatives.
Ive shown a willingness to work across party lines to get stuff done and to take votes that aren't necessarily popular with political leadership in Washington or with my party, but that are in the best interests of my district.
I think that our current legislator is perfectly comfortable continuing to support this particular president, and it's time for change.
We need someone who is going to fight for affordability.
We need for someone to fight for anti-corruption.
We need somebody to fight for the protection of our public lands and so far we haven't really felt that.
When the president and I agree on things, I say so.
When we disagree, I say so as well.
It's important for me to have a good relationship with the White House, with the president.
We cannot fight every single battle in every single place or otherwise I'm not going to be able to be an effective legislator.
Im voting for Jeff Hurd.
Hes voted kind of slanted toward the Democrats with some votes, but Im going to have faith that hes going to vote for our Constitution.
I am not happy with what's happening really anywhere here.
I would like to get Jeff Hurd the heck out of here.
I think that he actually kind of ran on not being a Trumpy Republican.
And then he got into office and was exactly a Trumpy Republican.
I don't know that Dwayne Romero is really what I would consider a leftist, but he is driving the bus that is going toward the direction I would like to toward.
Our democracy at the moment is actually under siege.
We got to win the House.
We got to win the Senate.
If we're able to move through this period of time, we have decades of work in front of us to restore and improve our performance as a nation and as a democracy.
I trust the people of this district.
At the end of the day, they see me as somebody thats willing to work hard, get results, and who's genuinely committed to doing the right thing for the district.
