Some Pierce County homeowners are rethinking how they handle yard work and skipping the mower altogether.

Multimedia Journalist Taylor Mirfendereski shows why they're bringing in a four legged crew to get the job done.

-I'm still amazed.

-Kristie Marbut of Sumner is so impressed with the work of her latest landscaping crew.

-Wow, look at how gone it is.

-Days earlier, her tiny suburban yard was overgrown and overwhelming.

-So I couldn't even walk up these stairs.

And I thought, how were they going to get in there?

-But this wasn't an ordinary crew.

-They were undaunted.

Just started munching a pathway through.

-Five goats spent a week here eating through invasive weeds and thorny blackberry bushes.

It's called goatscaping, an eco friendly and affordable method of clearing land without the heavy machinery or toxic chemicals.

-I've hired humans and I'm never satisfied.

-And in peak wildfire season, she wanted a safer way to remove unwanted brush.

She hired Tacoma based Goats Plus, one of several companies across the state meeting the demand.

-It's getting a little more popular.

And the goats do an amazing job.

-In the last three years, the goats have cleaned up hundreds of residential properties, including Milt Schullian's Federal Way lot.

-They are eating everything and they got right to work immediately.

-Traditional landscapers quoted him thousands.

-But the price of goatscaping sealed the deal.

-$450 for a week, for ten goats.

-And for Marbut... -It was $250.

-A small price for big possibilities in her favorite space.

-Now I have to start brainstorming on what I'm going to replace it all with.
