A leopard with its kill in a tree provides an unexpected opportunity for the hungry Xudum pride.
Brad has located the Xudum pride mums and cubs on the move. Led by their noses, hungry mothers Magogo, Nosi and Mmakgosi locate an unexpected opportunity — a leopard with its meal high in a tree. It's morning.
Ill update on numbers soon.
Brad has found the hungry lion mothers and all the cubs See, shes running now.
Mmakgosi, Magogo and Nosi have spotted an opportunity.
So theres a leopard up in this tree on a kill and the pride has found them.
When its really really dry, prey is limited and its isolate and everybodys just bottled up into one little ball.
This has brought the predator interaction to a peak.
Leopards stash their food in trees to keep it safe.
But these lion mothers will stop at nothing to feed their cubs.
This group of lionesses are known for their tree climbing.
You know, I think this is an example of the advantage of that.
The leopard has no chance against a lion three times its weight.
So Mmakgosi has decided to eat the carcass up in the tree alone not share it with everybody below.
Frustrating for the cubs and the other lionesses.
Shes being a little mean.
These cubs are hungry, they can smell this pig.
And theyre desperately trying to get up and down but none of them seem to be winning.
Its almost like shes trying to get these cubs to learn to climb trees to go and get it.
If they want something to eat, then theyll climb.
Oh!
Go Mathata.
Its the highest one of the cubs has gone.
Mmakgosis coming down.
Everybody trying to get hold of it and shes about to tumble down with the carcass and knock the cubs out tree I think.
And now were going to have absolute pandemonium trying to compete over this warthog.
