This has been our clubhouse for over 60 years, and we are proud to have still been here So welcome to the Owl Club of Denver.
My name is Ron Washington.
I am a Owl Club member for the last 24 years, So as we enter the building, you're first greeted with our planter, which displays our logo The term Owl Club of Denver originated when the founders of the club used to meet at each other's homes and play cards on the weekends.
Their wives used to tease them and said, you guys are just like a bunch of night owls.
And so the name Owl Club stuck.
As we move towards the back we enter our office area and our library.
And this is our crown jewel as it represents 74 years of debutantes 1600 young ladies are represented here.
And they have all gone on to do just amazing things with their lives and their careers.
As we proceed through the building, you go down to our club room or community room.
And this room has been the center point of so many different events.
We have holiday parties, we have community events, and all types of celebrations here in this room.
One of the features of this room is the “O” that stands in the middle of the room, and when a new Owl member is inducted into the club, they must take the oath of an Owl Club member by standing in the “O” All of Owl Club members have such varied backgrounds, and the we've carried on the legacy and the impact of what our founders had first envisioned, the way they came together, it was men in this community who are community leaders, Owl Club members still represent that.
The men [of the] Owl Club carry on the legacy of being strong community leaders and advocates.
