Welcome back to our learning space.
My name is Miss Lara, can you tell me your name?
I'm so grateful that you made it back today.

I hope you've had fun this week.

♪ Okay, so now it's time for a letter clue, are you ready?
Here it goes.
Of course, you're learning letters all the time, they're all around us.
When you're in the car, see if you see any, so here's the magic letter for today.
I'm gonna use four big lines, hope it looks like what I'm hoping it does.

M, that's right, M from mindful, mindful minute.
And Ms. McCarthy, she's gonna lead us in a mindful minute, let's watch together.
- Hi boys and girls, welcome to Mrs. McCarthy's Mindful Minute.
Great to see you again.
Since the weather has been breezy lately, we will do some kite breathing and some kite stretching to control ourselves and feel better.
Let's practice our mindful breathing first.
Watch me as I show you how to do kite breathing.
I'm going to put my hand up, and move my hand toward my nose as I inhale through my nose.
I hold my breath for a moment.
When I exhale through my mouth, I will move my hand like a kite in the wind around my body.
Watch me one more time.
Now you try it with me.
Let's do that three times, taking in three deep breaths through our nose, holding up for a moment and exhaling through our lips.
That was very good, well done.
Let's move to kite stretching.
Stand with your feet together, extend your arms above your head like a kite, and place your palms together.
Inhale slowly through your nose, while stretching your body to one side.
Go back to the middle and exhale.
Watch me again.
Inhale as I move to the opposite side, hold it, exhale.
Try that with me two times on each side.
That was very good girls and boys.
Remember, like I always say, practice your mindful breathing when you're feeling good and use your mindful breathing when you're upset, it always helps you to feel better.
I'll see you the next time, bye girls and boys.
- I feel so relaxed now, thank you Mrs. McCarthy for your mindful minute.
And you can learn all about wellness and relaxation in books too.
Don't forget to check out the Sora app.
Okay, time for our project, our last one of the week.
We're going to make magic milk.
Ooh, also called exploding colors.
So let's see the materials we're gonna need.
We're going to need full fat milk.
It's so important that it's whole milk not the 2% or 1% kind that comes in a blue container.
Then we're going to need some food coloring, some dish soap and cotton swabs.
Now before we start, I want you to think, I'm going to pour this milk in, and then I'm going to pour in, little droplets of food coloring.
What do you think is going to happen?
Do you think that the milk is gonna mix with the color and turn into one big color?
Do you think it's gonna bubble and burst?
I want you to make a prediction and think what's gonna happen before we do our experiment.
Now, here we go, I'm gonna pour in some milk.
Now, why we're using milk this week, is because cows give us milk, don't they?
What else do they give us?
Lots of other things, but my favorite is ice cream.
Yamm, I love ice cream.
Okay, let's pour a little more milk, here we go.
Pour it all in.
I'm gonna let it settle for just a moment.
The milk has to be so still, are you ever so still?
It's really hard to be very still when you're three or four years old, isn't it?
All right, we have to be still like the milk.
Okay, here it goes.
First, I'm going to use the color green and I'm gonna put little drops of green in there.
Let's see, okay, nothing much happening yet.
Then I'm gonna put some red, red like our burn.
Just adding little drops.
And it's actually better if they're closer together like this if you want them to be really colorful.
My next color is yellow.
Here we go, droplets of yellow.
What's your favorite color that I've used so far?
Maybe I haven't used it yet.
Maybe it's this one blue.
Let's put it in there.
Okay, now we have our droplets.
Is it doing what you thought it was gonna do?
I don't know, I thought that they would spread a lot more.
So for the next part of our experiment, we're actually gonna take a cotton swab, it's those things that you might stick around your ear to kind of get them clean, and we're gonna dip them and some dish soap.
Let's see, a prediction pause.
What is going to happen?
I gave you a clue earlier when I said exploding colors, but why?
Let's see, Oh, I hope this works.
Do you see that?
What's happening to all the colors?
They're running away.
Colors come back.
Look, and actually the blue and the red is mixing to make what color?
Do you know what color that mixes to make?
Let's see, it makes purple, that's right.
I'm gonna add a little bit more blue here in the center.
Now, let's talk about why this is happening.
The milk has a lot of fats in it.
And when I, let's pour a little more yellow here or just wants to explode all over the place.
And when I dip my cotton swab in the dish soap, the dish soap actually repels those fats and proteins and minerals.
Doesn't want to explode so much anymore.
There it goes.
You kind of have to find just the right spot.
Normally we can't see this process but the food coloring really allows us to see the swirls and the patterns that are made as the milk kind of fats and proteins move away from the dish soap.
I'm gonna see if I can get a nice big explosion again, and then we'll end our week.
I kind of have to find the just right spot for it to work.
There it goes.
Now, parents, this can get a little bit messy, so make sure that you do it in a place where you don't mind if anything spills.
I hope that you try this at home, and if you do send me a note, let me know if your predictions came true and how the process was for you.
And of course, if you send in your address here at the station, you get one of these fun activity books and they have all kinds of stickers and things that you can do.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Okay, time to end our week, we studied "The Cow That Went Oink."
