Welcome back to our learning space.
My name is Miss Lara.

Here we go.
♪ Good morning ♪ ♪ Good morning ♪ ♪ It's a sunshine kind of day ♪ ♪ Come join Miss Lara for some learning and some play ♪ ♪ Will we sing a song ♪ ♪ Of course, we will ♪ ♪ Make our brains strong ♪ ♪ Like, super strong ♪ ♪ So come along ♪ ♪ Yes, come on friends ♪ ♪ For some learning and some play ♪ Thank you so much, Chompers.
You're a big help.
Let's put you down and then we'll get started with the plan for the day.
So, today's really exciting, because we're gonna continue with our story, "Jack and the Beanstalk."
Now, if you haven't had a chance to listen to it or read it, go back to Monday's episode where you'll find a video story, so you can play along with us today.
Okay, so we're gonna do our emotional check-in.
Did any of you make your giant feet so that we can play today?
And then we're gonna continue with our story, and we're gonna play a fun game called alphabet stomp.
And then we'll end with an activity, and, of course, our goodbye song if we have time.
If not, then a wave goodbye and a smooch.
(lips smack) So let's get started with our Feelings song.
Now I know you can't see my feet when I put them on.
They kind of go on like this.
And if you wanted to make them, what I did was I took a thin piece of cardboard.
So you can see it's not very thick.
That way I could actually use scissors to make a giant foot shape.
So you can put these on as you stomp, your fee-fi-of-fum, just like we do in our riddle.
Or, boys and girls, if you have pictures of feelings, or if you're a classroom teacher, you could also do a feelings walk, where you let students or children wear these.
And they go around, fee-fi-of-fum to different pictures and they have to act out the feeling that they step on.
So for our purposes, we're gonna do a riddle with these.
Okay, are you ready?
So if you have your feet, stomp with me.
Ready?
Fee-fi-fo-fum.
I have strong feelings and here is one.
Today I screamed and began to cry.
I saw a spider in my shoe, oh my!
What feeling do you think I'm feeling?
Yes, scared, frightened, absolutely alarmed.
Now, scared is a very strong feeling.
When you feel strong feelings, your whole body might get hot and tense.
That means it kind of tightens up like this.
One way that I like to calm down is use things in my toolkit.
So I have my basket here full of stuff that I can use.
One of my favorite things to do is breathe.
Take deep belly breaths and name my feeling.
And I use this tool called a Hoberman's sphere to help me breathe.
So let's take a minute and breathe together just like you would, if you were scared or upset or having another strong feeling.
Are you ready?
It goes like this.
We'll do it three times.
We're gonna let our air out there.
(deep breath exhale) Fill up with air.
(deep breath inhale) And let it out.
(deep breath exhale) And fill up with air.
(deep breath inhale) And let it out.
(deep breath exhale) Ooh, I feel better already.
I really don't like spiders, so even thinking about it, make my whole body tight.
All right.
Now we're gonna move on to our learning.
I have a letter here that's gonna tell you what game we're gonna play.
Are you ready?
Try to guess the letter.
First, we're gonna use a big line and it's gonna go down like this, and then a little line right at the bottom.
What letter have I made?
The letter L. That's right.
That's my special letter.
What's yours?
L is also for letter, and that's exactly what we're gonna learn today.
So let me stand up, and I'll go to my chart.
And you'll see we're gonna do an alphabet stomp game.
So what I did, is I made a chart with all of our alphabet letters that we need to learn from A, all the way to Z.
What we're gonna do is sing our alphabet song, kind of slowly, and then when I have my giant's footsteps, we're gonna stomp.
We're going to stop at that letter and we're gonna say the letter and trace it out.

See, I've cut it, and then I added a foot.

All right.
So to help you remember the alphabet, we're gonna do another activity here in our project place.
Let me tell you what we're going to need.
We're going to build the beanstalk.
We're gonna need a pool noodle, scissors, markers, and paper and pencil.
So here's what I've done.
So I took a pool noodle.
You might find these at the place where everything costs $1.
I took that and cut it into small little pieces like this.
And what we're going to try to do is build the beanstalk using the alphabet.
So we're gonna stack the letters in order and see how high we get.
So let's do that first.
First, I'm gonna take my pool noodle, and I'm gonna cut it.
Now it takes a little bit of effort to cut it.
You might have a grownup help you.
Whoops.
Actually it's good cutting practice, because it really strengthens your fingers.
So you're gonna take a piece like that.
Now, if you cut them kind of up like this, it makes it extra wobbly and fun.
Next, you're gonna take a marker.
Now you need a special kind of marker, called a permanent marker, to make this work, because the surface is very slippery and slidey.
So if you try to use crayons or a regular marker, your letter, or whatever you write, won't show up.
So for me, I'm going to write the letter Z.
So I'm gonna put it right there.
See?
The letter Z.
And I'm gonna put it down.
The fun part of this activity is trying to build your beanstalk.
So as you can see, I have my beanstalk right here ready, all my pieces.
We're gonna try to build it up.
Let's see how far up we get.
Okay, and to make it extra fun, what you can do, is whatever letter it lands on before it falls, you're gonna write that letter here.
So, let's see how far I get.
A, B, C, Ooh, I'm worried, it's wobbling.

And then I'm gonna make a big line down, jump back to the top, little line, little line.

For some reason, it's pretty wobbly.
Okay.
We're gonna say the next one is G. Then we'll do H. I. Nope, I think the highest I got was probably G. All right.
Let's write that.
So I'm gonna take a napkin, wipe this off.
And, we're gonna write the G. G is a hard letter for us to learn sometimes.

So you can use cups, like recycled cups, plastic cups, paper cups, and you just put a piece of paper in between them and write the letter on the cups and try to build your beanstalk as high as you can.
You can also, if you do this activity, kind of hide the pool noodles around the house and then try to hunt for them and see how many letters you can find.
