It's time for Granite State Challenge.
Here's your host, Jon Cannon.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Granite State.
Challenges 42nd season.
We've already had one wild card match where one team punched their ticket to join the other 14 teams, which leads one spot left for either these two teams competing with us right now.
Let's introduce them to you.
First up, we have the team from Lin-Wood High School and they are led by Captain Sarah and Sarah.
You have an interesting sort of living arrangement where you spend part of your time living how?
I live off the grid, part time.
Okay.
So for the folks at home, what does that mean, living off the grid?
So we live like a mile from the pavement in the woods.
We have a gravity fed well, and we use solar panels.
Okay, So just a little different.
Yeah.
And do you like it?
Do you enjoy living off the grid?
I enjoy it.
I like having all the nature around me and there's challenges, but it's still enjoyable.
Yeah, lots of respect for that.
It's got to be tough and I appreciate it very much.
All right.
Sarah is joined by Ryder, who is an Eagle Scout, which is no small accomplishment.
So what did you do for your Eagle Scout final project?
Okay, so for my Eagle Scout final project, I built a informational kiosk stand at Ellsworth Ponds and up in Ellsworth, New Hampshire.
Okay.
And so this is sort of a kiosk.
You made it out of wood.
And if I go to Ellsworth Pond, what am I going to see on the kiosk?
So when I built it I simply just like a map of the town up there was a little sign that said what the place was called and some general stuff.
Over the time, Other people came and put their own stuff on it, and I don't really know what all that stuff is.
I haven't been there in a while, but well, I'm sure it'll be there for a good long time, so that's great.
Ryder is joined by Gabby and Gabby is a transplant to New Hampshire originally from where?
Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania.
Where in Pennsylvania are you from?
York.
York, Pennsylvania.
Okay.
And what do you what do you miss the most about Pennsylvania?
The cows.
The cows.
All right.
Lots of open field and farmland in the area.
So you miss the cows?
Well, you can find some cows here in New Hampshire, maybe not as many up in Lincoln or Woodstock is maybe a little too mountainous up there for the for the big fields.
But welcome to the shire.
And rounding out the team is Danny, who's who are?
Danny and I.
We share a favorite form of cuisine, Right.
Which is the what?
Donuts.
The donut.
Yes.
And do you have a favorite donut?
Chocolate glazed.
Chocolate glaze?
You know, that was my favorite when I was when I was a kid as well.
Maybe still my favorite.
Now, do you have a favorite donut establishment you like to go to?
I like Dunkin.
You like Dunkin, right?
Like why?
Why make it confusing?
Just go to Dunks.
All right.
That is the team.
They also their alternate is Maisie and the team is coached by science teacher David Webster.
And they are the team from Lin-Wood High School.
All right.
Facing off against Linwood is the team from Newfound Regional High School.
Newfound Regional High School is served by a bunch of communities including Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Danbury, Groton, Hebron Hill and New Hampton.
So a lot of towns bringing kids up to Newfound Regional High School, including Captain Nick.
Now, Nick, you had the opportunity to travel across the country how many times?
Twice.
Twice.
And was this on family vacations?
Yep.
All right.
So where'd you go each time?
The first time we went to Georgia and then Texas.
Okay.
And the second time we went to the Grand Canyon.
All right.
Any favorites amongst that?
I really liked the Grand Canyon.
It was really neat.
I mean, who doesn't like the Grand Canyon, right?
Yeah.
Georgia and Texas were okay.
Yeah, they were good.
Just okay.
When you travel, you traveling by car, you traveling, like, in a camper?
We travel in the camper.
Okay, So that must have been a pretty long trip, then.
Yeah, it was.
Yeah.
Well, that's super.
That's fun.
All right.
Nick is joined by Kinsey, who's a bit of a musician.
Kinsey plays the... Violin.
The violin.
And how long have you been playing the violin?
Since seventh grade.
Since seventh grade.
Okay, that's fantastic.
And do you mostly play at school?
Do you get to play out or anything like that?
Yeah, I've started out school with my music teacher that actually learned with me.
But then the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, my local town was able to fund private lessons and so I still practice on my own to this day.
Well, it's fantastic.
Well, shout out to them for funding your your lessons.

We went into the Amazon rainforest and also the Andes.
That's amazing.
It's just for a school trip.
Got to go to Ecuador.
But you didn't just get to go there.
You got to do something really cool while you were there that I've never done.
I got to go ziplining in the Amazon, but not just zip lining.
I got to go upside down ziplining, which was incredible.
So you're literally hanging upside down as your zip lining, like your head is the lowest part of your body.
All right.
How long was that ride?
It was pretty short, but it felt really long.
I was getting to say, I don't know how long the human body can handle being upside down for so long, but super jealous of what a great opportunity that would have been.
All right, so the team alternate is I'm sorry, I don't have his name.
And the coach is social studies teacher Ryan Baker, and they're the team from new found regional high school.
All right.
And one more introduction for you and that, of course, back with us again is our judge Ann Boulanger.
