About The Show
Take a trip back to the English seaside to recall the most romantic, suspenseful, humorous, and indelible moments of the 20 episodes and three seasons of MASTERPIECE’s hit series Sanditon.
Hear fascinating behind-the-scenes insights from the cast and creators about what makes the series so unforgettable and join Turlough Convery (Arthur Parker) for a tour of the charming sets created for the fictional seaside town of Sanditon. Viewers can play along with the cast to test their knowledge of Regency Era customs and try to identify text from Austen novels.
Sanditon, based on the story and characters created by Austen in her last, incomplete novel, is set amid the romantic intrigues of an English seaside resort in the early 1800s. Emmy Award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies — with four previous Austen adaptations to his credit — was the perfect candidate to bring the story to life on the screen. In SANDITON REVISITED, he discusses how the author’s last novel is surprisingly different from her previous work. “It’s Jane Austen,” he says, “but not as you knew her."
Interviews include Rose Williams, who plays Charlotte Heywood, a young woman from the country thrust by fate into the social scene in Sanditon, which is vying to become the go-to spa for fashionable aristocrats and gentry. Crystal Clarke plays Georgiana Lambe, Jane Austen’s first Black character, a mixed-race heiress from the West Indies who can’t trust any of her suitors because, in all probability, they may only be interested in her fortune. The two women bond over these courtship dilemmas as well as their resolve to forge their own destinies.
Additional cast interviews across all three seasons include Kate Ashfield (Mary Parker), Kevin Eldon (Reverend Hankins), Jack Fox (Edward Denham), Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Alexander Colbourne), Kris Marshall (Tom Parker), Anne Reid (Lady Denham) and many, many more.
Creators interviewed include writer Andrew Davies, producers Georgina Lowe and Rebecca Hedderly, executive producer Tim Key, story producer Nick Lambon, director Olly Blackburn, costume designers Sam Perry and Lauren Miller, and hair and makeup designer Helen Tucker.
