Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I'm sorry.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Hi, I'm Mr. Dawson.
And I'm here to take you on discoveries here at Discovery Ranch so you can learn how to read and write.
Join me here each day so we can go on new discoveries together.
Now listen, have you learned a lot this week?
I know you have.
And I want you to write to me and tell me something that you've learned, maybe about oi or maybe about the sight words, maybe about pronouns.
Write to me and send it to me right here at Valley PBS and I'll send you an activity book.
That's right.
Do you want one?
Write me a letter today.
All right, let's get started.
It's time for Daily Funny Make Awareness.
I wonder what we're gonna do today.
Oh, we're blending today.
Are you ready to blend?
Okay, let's talk about some things.
Now, we've seen O W before.
Do you remember what O W says?
Oh, right.
You remember.
That's excellent.
So now, let's sound it out.
Are you ready?
D-O-W-N. Now you have to run it all together and say it really smoothly to get that word.
Let's go slow first.
You ready?
It's kind of like going slow motion slow like in a movie.
Do you remember that?
Here we go.
D-O-W-N I got, I have all those phonemes in my head.
Let's go a little bit faster now D-O-W-N. Really fast.
DOWN.
Did you get it?
Down.
Good job.
Here's another one.
Oh, oh.
Look, cool.
There's a clue.
There's a clue.
Oh my gosh!
There's a clue.
The E is going to tell the A to say its name.
Are you ready?
R-A-K-E. Are you ready?
Let's blend it now guys in slow motion slow.
R-A-K-E. Let's do it again a little bit faster.
You're ready?
R-A-K-E. last time really fast.
RAKE.
What's the word?
Rake.
So good.
You guys are good at this blending thing.
Okay.
Oh, now this is an easy one.
I know you're gonna get this one.
Let's go.
Let's say the phonemes.
"H" What's this one?
"A" And what's this one?
"M".
Okay, let's blend it.
You ready?
Slow, slow motion slow.
H-A-M. A little bit faster.
H-A-M. And really fast.
You ready?
HAM.
HAM.
Oh, you guys are amazing.
Okay, last one.
Oh, look, look!
It's a clue!
It's a clue!
It has a clue!
Oh my gosh!
It has a clue.
The "E" what is it going to do?
It's gonna tell the "I", don't say your sound, say your name.
Okay.
You guys ready?
Let's sound it out.
L-I-N-E.
Okay.
You're ready to blend?
Slow motion slow.
L-I-N-E.
Okay, Let's go a little bit faster.
L-I-N-E. Now let's go really fast.
LINE.
What's the word?
LINE.
Oh my goodness.
You, you are so good at blending words.
When you see them in a word in a book and you don't know, what are you gonna do now?
That's right.
You sound it out and then you blend it.
And you'll get it because you guys are so smart.
How about some sight words?
You guys ready for some sight words?
All right.
We've been studying these all week.
Why?
Because we all see these in books all the time.
In fact, in our passage, I was just looking at it and there's a lot of these side words in there.
Let's practice them.
It.
I T says "it", as.
A S spells "as", an.
A N spells "an", at.
A T spells "at", on.
O N spells "on", be.
B E spells "be", no.
N O T spells "not", but.
B U T spells "but", his.
H I S spells "his" and in.
I N spells "in".
Great job.
Okay.
Now it's time for grammar.
And we've been talking about pronouns all week and we still are.
Remember, pronouns are nouns that take the place of another noun in a sentence.
Remember, we are talking about how we could, we could say like, Olivia, Olivia, Olivia, Olivia, all the time.
And that would be kind of boring.
So I change some nouns for pronouns just to change it up and make it more interesting like right here, Olivia and I played ball.
Olivia and I played ball.
So I wanna say something about having fun, Hm had fun.
What pronoun would I use?
Olivia and I.
Can I say they?
No, because I'm part of that group.
Them?
No.
But, what, what?
I heard somebody out there in TV land, they said use "We".
And that is correct.
We had fun.
Do you see, I've changed Olivia and I and took that out and put "We".
Olivia and I played ball.
We had fun.
Do you see how it makes it a little bit more interesting?
Let's look at this next sentence.
Elias sings.
Now I wanna change, get Elias out and put a pronoun in there.
So now it says, "Hm is a good singer."
So what would I say?
What pronoun would I use that means either Elias, but it's not his name.
Do you know?
I bet you do.
what?
Yes, yes.
I heard it.
Someone said "He".
He is a good singer.
Elias sings.
He is a good singer.
Brilliant.
You can do that in your writing when you're writing, you can say, "I don't wanna see all those pronouns all the time.'
or the name of the night time.
Excuse me.
And I can use pronouns to substitute for it.
And then it makes it a little bit more interesting.
Well, let's take a look at our phonics.
Are you ready to look at our phonics?
Here we go.
Remember, we're reviewing our vowels and vowels are important because they can say two sounds in kindergarten.
They can say their name and they can say their phoneme.
That's what they like to do.
And you remember, he's kind of special, they're kind of special because he has like that third little sound that's kind of a mystery.
Okay, so A says A and a, E says E and e, I says I and i, O says O and o, U says U and u. and it also could say U like in Luke.
Alright.
And what are our diagraphs?
Our diagraphs are C H says ch, T H says th, S H says sh and W H says wh.
I wanted to go fast because today I wanna talk to you about our O Y again.
And I O again.
And what is the phoneme for that?
Do you remember?
What is O I and O Y say?
That's right, it says, oi.
And we had these cards that we looked up at and found the oi in them.
But today, Oh my goodness, today, what could we be doing today?
Oh, guess what I did.
I got some first grade work.
Oh my goodness!
My friends are gonna be all upset with me for getting first grade work in kindergarten.
Can you believe it?
You're gonna do some first grade work.
Oh my goodness.
It says here, the letters O I and O Y can stand for the sound you hear in the middle of noise and at the end of joy.
Use the words in the box to complete each sentence.
Write the word on the line.
Oh, I better get my trusty dusty pen.
Which one should I get?
Oh, it came out black.
All right, here we go.
This one says, my name is and my words are, enjoys, boil, Roy, toy, point and coin.
All right.
So this one says, my name is...
Which one has a name?
Which word is?
That's right, Roy.
And I can tell because it has an uppercase letter.
So here I'm gonna spell Roy.
R, and that oy is what?
Oy.
look at that?
Isn't that amazing.
Okay.
So now how about this one?
This hm is a dime.
So what would it be?
I've used Roy.
So I'm gonna take that out.
Joy, enjoys, boil , toy, point or coin?
Right, it's a coin.
It's a coin.
So how do you spell it?
Help me spell it.
That's right.
C-O-I-N. And look right there.
Coin, coin.
Do you see that?
Oi, oi says oi.
Let's look at the next one.
She hm painting.
So we did coin.
Which one would it be?
Enjoys, boil, toy or point?
Right.
Enjoys.
So I'd write, enjoys here.
And do you see the oy in there?
Right?
The, O and what?
The Y.
Right.
She enjoys painting.
You know, I think I should stop there because I wanna take a look at our passage again and look for some oy's.
Here's our passage.
Remember it says sandbox toys.
Troy said, "Boy, Oh boy, "I can't wait to play with toys in the sandbox".
"That sounds like fun."
said Lil.
"Can I join you?"
"Sure."
said Troy.
"Join me but do not spoil my mound of sand!"
I wanna look right here.
Look, oi.
Do you see the O I?
O I says, oi.
How about oi?
And this one, J-O-I-N... O I.
So when you see that O I, what do you say?
Oi.
let's take a look at this one.
Look, there's an oi.
Let's sound it out.
S-P. And what is, O I spell?
oi.
S-P-O-I-L. S-P-O-I-L. Spoil.
We found all the O I's and the O Y's in our passage.
Look at that, we did a great job.
Oh, and look at some of those sight words, like I said, an N and can, and you, a lot of sight words.
We've done so much this day and Oh, it's already time to go.
Oh my goodness.
I'm gonna have to go back out to the ranch anyway and do some work myself.
We've learned so much this day, huh!
We learned about oi and pronouns and sight words.
Oh my goodness.
I had such a good time.
I hope you did too.
Do you know what tomorrow is?
Tomorrow's reading day.
I hope to see you tomorrow for reading day.
I'm excited about reading day.
We'll see you tomorrow.
