to the kidvision playroom i'm doing my morning exercises i do them every morning so that i am energized for the day please join me let's start with our head ready one two three four good now our [Music] hello hi miss penny this is miss megan calling from the nsu alvin sherman library hi miss megan how are you i'm doing great i could really use your help today though what do you need i need to pull some books for story time but i just don't know what i want to read do you think you can come to the library and help me i can yay see you soon see you soon kid vision kids it's time for uh [Applause] a day with a children's librarian wow libraries are magical places there are so many books and activities and things to do here if you've never been to a library check it out and at libraries you can check out books and all kinds of things for free take them home and then bring them back and get something else it's amazing let's look for megan i see you hi megan hi miss penny how are you good and you are a librarian at the nsu alvin sherman library i sure am and it's an amazing place here and look at that there's all books about librarians this one actually is about bats at the library this book will actually read itself to you you just turn it on here and then every time you turn the page it reads you a new part of the story oh how wonderful i know i love these books and we also have regular books like you're used to reading and we have e-books in each audiobook so that you can read them on your computer your parents ipad how do you read it on your computer you just log in with your library card pick the book you want to read and boom there it is so you don't even have to go to the library the library comes to you wow [Music] what i want to do next is find some books to read for story time so i don't know what i want to read about do you have any ideas i was thinking a b word would be good maybe a book about birds b for books b for birds that's perfect yes let's go ask my other librarian friend miss serena if she can help us find some books about birds okay so we're going to walk over to the reference desk and that's where you go to get help whenever you're at the library hi miss serena hi miss megan hi miss penny hi so today we were hoping to find some books about birds for story time but i can't remember where to find them you can find more books about birds in the 598 section perfect thank you so much all right bye bye well it looks like librarians do a lot of things librarians love to help and they'll help you find where the book is inside the library so librarians have to know a lot about books what other kind of things do librarians do we do a lot we do programs like story time and stem programs we order all the books that we find in the library we want to make sure you guys always have the best new books to read that's incredible so you have to know your alphabet oh for sure because we put our books in order by the author's last name so authors whose last names start with h through l or e through h are found right in this section so if you were looking for a book and it was by brian lies it's not under b for brian it's under lies for his last name exactly bats at the beach that's right can you think of some more words that start with the letter b hmm maybe our kid mission kid friends can help us the letter b i can think of something that's bouncy a ball and i can think of something that you rock a baby can you think of any other things that start with the letter b bear good job so let's go find some books about birds are you ready i'm ready right over this way okay let's go miss penny so over here we have books about big cats it's not rate we have books about bears still not right and oh miss penny i found it here's the section for books about birds i love it and look at that this is the cover of the book and this is the back of the book which gives us lots of information about what's inside the book exactly and what is this called this is called the spine of the book and it has the author the illustrator the title terrific let's look inside sure oh this is the title page it says the title of the book the author and the illustrator but you know miss megan for story time i'd really like to find a story book about a bird oh perfect let's go find it [Music] shiny that is a great book you are brilliant good job we have a big version of this book that's great for story time and more story time supplies and a special office just for librarians let's go okay [Music] this is like the magic closet it sure is i already put everything we need in this purple box but i also wanted to show you some of my other books we have like this pop-up book so a pop-up book like the itsy bitsy spider instead of being flat like a regular book it's three-dimensional which means the images pop out at you wow have you ever seen a pop-up book let's see so here we go oh here's our big book wow that is a big book of a little book don't let the pigeon drive the bus so if you can carry that i'll carry the prop box and mobile practice for story time on the story time [Laughter] there are two characters in the story would you like to be the bus driver or the bird the bus driver perfect i'll be the bird don't let the pigeon drive the bus words and pictures by moe willems [Music] the end miss megan that was such a fun book to read it reminds me of a song i know oh is it the wheels on the bus yes i love that song can we sing it let's do the wheels on the bus go round and round round and round round and round the wheels on the bus go round and round [Music] the wipers on the bus go swish swish swish swish swish swish swish swish swish the wipers on the bus go swish swish swish around the town that was so much fun thank you for singing with me i love that song so we're going to close out our practice story time with the letter of the day and today's letter is the letter b [Music] that's right it's the letter b so inside my box i have lots of puppets that start with the letter b can you guess what the first one is let's see let me see if i can get it to fly on out of here oh it's a beautiful butterfly and butterflies start with the letter b perfect and you know what i see birds on your blue dress so many bees at story time today so many let me see what i can find what is this a bumblebee and he goes right with my flowers he can have a little drink oh i love him i do too let's see what's next oh this one's bigger it's a black big big buffalo look at him he's a sweet brown bear so cute we found lots of things with the letter b thank you miss megan for telling us all about what librarians do letting me participate in a story time practice is really fun and comic book store to find so many exciting books like this with colorful pictures and really fun stories let's go [Music] hi i'm miss penny and these are the kidvision kids and we're here today to find out about comic books fantastic i'm miss melissa and we're here at lauderdale comics where we absolutely love comic books and would love to tell you all about them great and i'm mr kevin i love comic books so much that i read them and i write them and i'd like to introduce one of my comics to you today would that be cool yeah all right let's go in wonderful here we go [Music] what is a comic that's a great question a comic is a story that's told in a series of pictures usually accompanied with dialogue and words in the traditional word bubble and comics utilize a lot of action words oh i love action words what is an action word it's something that you do it's something that you do what what do you think an action word is it's a verb it's a verb it's a verb and it's something that you do i want to introduce you to somebody special this is rob and he does um artwork for kidvision hi kids i'm going to draw some action words do you like action words yes all right let's draw some uh who has a good one zoom let's see how we can make that word what's the first letter in zoom z so what else can we do to this word to make it more zoom light or you can make jagged lines let's make some changes there you go what else could he do thunderbolts yeah there you go it looks like it's zooming to me any other ideas stars stars zoom do you know another action word yes so boom is a great action word too what's the first letter b okay when i think of boom i think of some impactful loud sounds right oh that looks like a great boom doesn't it yes yeah oh i love it what's that word [Music] do you know an action word what does it start with what let's see what could he do to that word to make it look powerful wiggle lines and how about stars yeah oh good job i love those words great words would you like to hear a comic book and we'll look for the action words in it yes yeah let's go thank you rob very welcome wonderful [Music] okay guys i brought in the poodles of potter's peak i actually wrote this can i read it to you yes okay five poodles sprang into action butterscotchy bounced to the attic monty made a mad dash to the bedroom pinky pranced to the guest room ronnie bolt into the kitchen and blackie barreled to the picture window whitey waited in her closet and tried to find her calm what did they see leo snyder trying to get in i don't like the looks of that mustache poodles to the living room whitey stays in her closet cause she's still afraid let's see we can't call 901 we don't have fingers we don't speak human also we can't let him see us cause poodles are so much fun he'd never be scared away you know what i have an idea so they went up into the room and they brushed brushed because inside the poodles were brushing and primping and styling and clipping and teasing as fast as they could when leo finally got in he was shocked to be met by a gray rhino a butterscotch hyena a pink lion a brown warthog a black bear and just peeking out of the closet the most ferocious little white mouse you ever saw well leo snyder ran away so quickly he was promising never to be meanie again he was so scared i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry and when miss esther got home and she returned with her chocolate chips she wondered what had happened while she was away but the poodles don't speak human so they never did [Music] that was a wonderful book thank you so much isn't it great to have someone read a book to you yeah yes you can go all on all kinds of adventures with books now we're going to talk about the book that was just read to you by mr kevin we're going to talk about comprehension who knows what comprehension means reading and remembering reading and remembering we were just read to so now we're gonna remember what we just read okay so now we have how many characters one one two three four five six and how many action one two three four five six now we're going to match the character to its action word what did blackie do where's the word bolton number two okay what did brownie do where's the word barrel monty dashed is that correct yes and white white [Music] you guys did a good job so the characters are nouns they're people places and things and these are all what kind of people people are animals what kind of animals were they and action words are verbs verbs action words are verbs dashed voltage barreled waiting pranced bounced those are all action words good job now we are going to pick a character any character you want pick an action word and we're going to make our own character would you like to do that yeah yes and then we're going to have the kid vision comic book there are a lot of things that are on a comic book page like we have characters you can have dogs cats or people we also have action words words like boom zoom and how wow yes we also sign a comic book page illustrations illustrations panels numbers and numbers to tell you what page you're on so we're gonna get busy and we're all gonna make a page for a kidvision comic book are you ready yes yeah let's get busy [Music] so this is my snake my powerful snake against a gator so they're gonna fight we don't know what's gonna happen next ah so it's a cliffhanger yes i wanna show this picture because it's an example of everything that we said it was gonna be it has panels it has characters it has words and it has numbers this is a tortuga and he starts digging a hole but we don't know what will happen next oh another cliffhanger let's let's look at yours let's see what you've drawn i tell me and i made a superhero about me with my cake oh you are zooming up that is a great picture thank you so much oh it was a pleasure it was great to have you read your own book to us very good and thank you so much your hands we've been doing a lot of this wash is an action verb speaking of washing our hands it's cleanup time i wonder where shiny went i think shinee's playing hide and seek with us oh wow we have a lot of books to clean up here let's get busy and maybe shiny will show up let's put all of these books back where they belong where do books go on a bookshelf that's right books go on a bookshelf so that we can find them the next time we want to read them let's put them away just like miss megan did we'll organize them by the first letter of the author's last name this was written by a apple so he goes first what comes after a b this author is b balloon balloon starts with a b the next book is by c carol would that go next a b c and look it's yellow just like shiny shiny there you are let's put away the rest of these books [Music] oh all the authors look they're at look at that a b c d e f g and they're just like the colors of the rainbow well okay vision kids it's time to say goodbye we
