Do you have aunts and uncles or cousins that live near the park?
Because this morning I went on my walk and I saw three grasshoppers, and they must have come out because of the rain.
- I do, I have friends and family that love to go on walks too.
So how are you feeling today, Ms. Lara?
- I'm so glad that you asked me, because if you'll remember it's been rainy where I am, and I haven't been able to go on my walks.
But today I got to go on my walk and I saw something really special.
Can I show you?
Okay, let me put you down, friend.
I saw a beautiful sunflower.
Now sunflowers are my favorite flower.
I took this picture so everyone can see it.
Now, how do you think it made me feel to see my favorite flower on my walk?
Do you think it made me feel happy and loved, or do you think it made me feel confused?
Yes, I felt so happy to see my flower.
And look, this little emoji has hearts in its eyes.
That's what I felt when I saw the flower.
Now I wanna know how you're feeling.
So let's pick out our letter mirror so we can check.
Let's see.
Today's letter is gonna have a big line and a little line.
What letter do you think it's going to be?

Big line down, Give happy face a little tickle to keep him smiley.

That's right.
It's the letter L, and that's my special letter.

Now, I want you to think, how do you think Juliana is feeling?
Yes, we can look at her face for clues.

Her hand is like this, like she's thinking.
And she's not smiling.
She seems kind of serious.
If you think that Juliana is thinking and being very thoughtful about her choices, make a thinking face like this.
Hmm.
If you think that Juliana is nervous, make a nervous face like this.
Hmm.
Let me take a look.
Oh, I see a mixture.
So maybe she's thinking about what she's going to paint, but maybe she's also nervous, because she's not sure what to paint.
That could be true.

We're gonna do our weekly investigation.
We're gonna finish our work around the book, the Grouchy Ladybug.
And then it's gonna be time to sing our goodbye song.
Sound like a plan?
Okay, let's do a quick movement activity that's gonna lead us to our intentional message.
Here we go.
How are we gonna get there?
Ooh, da, da, da, da, da.
Letter S. We're gonna sway like a praying mantis.
Now, if you've ever seen a praying mantis, they have these long arms that go like this, and sometimes they sway like this.
So that's how we're gonna get there.
Ready?
Let's sway like a mantas.
Here we go.
(breathing heavy) Here's our intentional message.
It focuses our work for the week.
It says, "Our focus text is the Grouchy Ladybug.
We will study the book's characters and use them to find rhyming words and beginning sounds."
So you remember we found some rhyming words like ladybug and mug, and we looked at beginning sounds like what whale starts with.
That's right, W. So before we move on, I want to sing a quick sound to remind us of this story.
Let's sing that song back in my chair.
Ready?
All right.
Here's our song.
I'm just gonna unclip it so I can have it on my lap and ready to sing for you.
It goes like this.
♪ I'm a grouchy ladybug ♪ ♪ Don't talk to me ♪ ♪ Pretend I'm as tough as tough can be ♪ ♪ First I find some aphids that I don't share ♪ ♪ I'd rather pick a fight and fly out of there ♪ ♪ I meet many animals and pick a fight ♪ ♪ Until a whale gives me an awful fright ♪ ♪ In the end, I return to my little leaf ♪ ♪ Not quite so grumpy ♪ ♪ Phew, what a relief ♪ Now remember in our story, our ladybug friend started off very grumpy.
And then towards the end, it was very tired and decided to be friendly again.
Now one way that you can calm down when you feel grumpy is by doing a mindful minute.
So let's watch Mrs. McCarthy's Mindful Minute in our video together.

Welcome to Mrs. McCarthy's Mindful Minute.
Today, we're gonna review the breathing techniques that we have learned in the past.
Remember, all of our breathing techniques, we breathe in through our nose and out through our lips.
Our first breathing technique that we learned was the flower candle breathing.
We hold up our finger like this.
We're gonna breathe in through our nose, like we're smelling the flower.
Then, we're gonna breathe out through our lips like we are blowing out a candle.
Let's try that three times.
(inhaling deep breath) (exhaling deep breath) (inhaling deep breath) (inhaling deep breath) That was very good, boys and girls.
The next one that we learned was the shoulder roll breathing.
That's when our shoulders go up when we take a breath, in through our nose, and then we roll our shoulders back down and breathe out through our lips.
Let's try that three times.
(inhaling deep breath) (exhaling deep breath) (inhaling deep breath) (exhaling deep breath) (inhaling deep breath) That was very good.
Our last one is our rainbow breathing technique.
That's when we have our arms down at our sides and we're gonna put our arms up like a rainbow and breathe in through our nose.
And then we're gonna put our arms back down to our sides and breathe out through our lips.
Let's try that one three times.
Here we go, boys and girls.
(deep inhaling breath) (deep exhaling breath) (deep inhaling breath) (deep exhaling breath) (deep inhaling breath) (deep exhaling breath) That's very good.
Were you mindful of breathing in through your nose and out through your lips?
I was.
Remember, boys and girls, that when you're nervous or upset it's always good to do one of these breathing techniques.
I know that it helps me calm down when I do one of those.
