♪ All right, so let me put my puppet away and we'll go through our schedule of the day.
Can't help but make those rhymes, day, play.
They both say "ay."
So here we go, doing our emotional check-in.
So all this week we've been singing our song "Tooty Ta."
And after our song today, we have a very special teacher, that's gonna lead us through "A Mindful Minute" with Miss McCarthy.
I can't wait for you to do that.
Have some good breathing exercises.
Our weekly investigation this week is all about Dr. Seuss.
And it's Read Across America week.
A week where we celebrate reading and we read to the children and friends and family around us, because it's Dr. Seuss's birthday.
So then we'll sing our goodbye song or do a good by wave depending on the time.
All right, are you ready to get started with our "Tooty Ta" song?
Now we're doing "Tooty Ta" three different ways.
We're gonna do the "Tooty Ta" as if we're feeling happy, as if we're feeling sad and we're gonna end it on a silly note, and be super silly.
Hey, now you're gonna stand up and dance with me.

Now another way that we can find out how we're feeling and calm down if we are feeling sad or mad or having another strong feeling like excited, is by doing "A Mindful Minute."
So we have Miss McCarthy sharing her "Mindful Minute" with us, let's watch together.
- Hi boys and girls.
Welcome to Mrs. McCarthy's "Mindful Minute."
I'm so glad you could be with me today.
Today, we're gonna start with a mindful stretch, a winter pose called mountain top.
I'd like you to stand with your feet firmly on the ground like the base of a mountain.
And you're gonna stretch really high like a mountain top.
Feel your arms go really high, stretching the sides of your body and your arms.
Really feel the stretch reaching up as tall as you can like a mountain.
We're gonna take three deep breaths being mindful of the breathing going in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Here we go.
(inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) Go ahead and put your arms back down by your sides.
That was very good boys and girls.
Now you're going to put your hand up like this and we're gonna do some more mountain breathing with our hand.
You're going to take your index finger from your other hand, place it on the side of your mountain.
You're gonna go up one side of the mountain and then down, breathing in as you go up, hold it and then exhale out through your mouth.
In through your nose, out through your mouth.
Inhale in, exhale out.
In through your nose, out through your mouth.
Being mindful of the breathing that you're doing to help you feel better.
Here we go.
Index finger up, start at the base of your mountain.
Here we go.
(inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) (inhales loudly) (exhales loudly) That was very good boys and girls.
I hope that you remember to practice doing mindful breathing when you're feeling good and to use it when you're upset or feeling bad because when you do mindful breathing at those times you're going to feel so much better.
Thank you for coming today.
I'll see you next time, boys and girls.
Bye bye.
- Thank you, Miss McCarthy.
I love "The Mindful Minutes."
And remember, you can learn more about being mindful by reading books, like the books found on the Sora app.
So right now I'm gonna give you a letter clue, that's gonna tell you kind of what we're going to be doing next.
So for this letter clue, I'm going to need a big curve, a little line up and a little line across.
What letter have I made?
Yes, the letter G. G for green.
We're gonna make green eggs and ham, yum.
All right, to make our green eggs and ham we're going to need, let's see, we're gonna need eggs, ham, butter and a super top secret ingredient.
Top secret.
So here's the recipe.
We're gonna add eggs and butter to the pan, mix in the ham and top with the secret ingredient, and cook and serve.
Okay, so the first thing we're going to do is cut up our ham.
So I have a little bit of ham right here and I'm actually gonna use a butter knife.
Now, if you don't already cook with your family, cooking can be a great way to help with reading because you have to follow steps, you develop your language skills, you learn to pay attention to details.
Those are all important things when you're learning to be a good reader.
So I'm just cutting up my ham here.
Now I have to confess I am not the best cook, but I do try.
I actually don't even eat meat, I'm a vegetarian.
Do you boys and girls know what that is?
That means somebody who does not eat meat.
Okay, so I have my ham here and I have a little bit of patted butter here.
So you're going to need a skillet and of course a parent's help.
Anytime that you're cooking you're going to need an adult supervision.
So I'm gonna take a little bit of my butter and put it right into the skillet.
Now, I don't know if you boys and girls can see it but it's melting away, like that.
Now, why do you think the butter would melt?
What causes it to melt?
Is it the heat?
What is butter made out of that causes it to melt?
I'm always trying to answer those questions.
Then of course I'm gonna take some eggs.
Now these are organic brown eggs.
But in our last week's activity, we learned that brown eggs and eggs that are white are just the same in the middle, aren't they?
So to crack an egg, knock it's eggshells.
So you're gonna crack it on the side of a surface.
I'm gonna crack here on the edge here.
(egg cracking) Ooh, there it goes.
I'm gonna try not to get shell in there.
See if I hear a sizzle?
Ooh, that egg feels kind of like (indistinct), like we made, okay, it's sizzling, it's working, it's working.
I'm actually gonna put two eggs in there.
One egg is never enough.
Crack it on the side and hope there's no shells in there.
And here we go.
Ooh, they real cracked.
Here we're gonna take a spatula and mix it up here.
You can see it being mixed up a little bit in there.
Mixing it up.
Now the egg, which was liquid is turning more solid now.
And now we're gonna add our ham in there.
So let's put our ham in.
I'm gonna sprinkle it in like this.
Now I know my boys and girls in my classroom, that you still love to eat ham and eggs.
It was when I added the super top secret ingredient that they were like, "No thank you Miss Lara, don't you feed me that.
I think Miss Lara's trying to poison me."
they would say.
But no, they're super delicious.
Okay, so once your eggs are kind of cooked like this, you're gonna add the top secret ingredient.
Now let's see, should I share it with you, boys and girls?
Okay, if you don't wanna hear it, cover your eyes.
Lemme talk to your parents.
The top secret ingredient is, food coloring, green.
And we're gonna put in about four drops.
Ready, count with me.
One, two, that was a big drop three, four.
They're gonna be super green.
And we're gonna mix it up.
Look at that, here we go.
I'm making green eggs and ham.
Delicious.
You can make these, parents for your children in the morning during this week and get them very excited about reading Dr. Seuss books.
So here are our green eggs and ham.
They're sticking to the pan a little bit, but you can use some cooking spray and get them off the pan.
So boys and girls, I hope that you try these green eggs and ham.
And let me know if you liked them or if they were gross.
And if you did try them, send in a picture.
If you send in your address, you get one of these activity books from our friends here at Valley PBS.
I always love hearing from you.
Looks like we have just enough time for our goodbye song.
Let's sing it really quickly.
