Take care of yourselves... [ Cheers and applause ] [ Cheers and applause ] I write all the time.
The form it takes is varied.
So it'll be an article or it'll be a post on social media somewhere or it'll be a keynote talk or a song or a photo that is imperatively needing to be taken.
So there's always expression ongoing, daily, all the time, but not always in the form of a song.
Whenever I write, initially, the process has it be such that I'm writing for myself.
It's very self-indulgent.
Then once it's captured and I share it publicly, it's no longer mine.
I quickly realized that how people interpret it, I have zero control over, and it actually became quite exciting to hear how people interpreted it.
So my interpretation is enough for the song to be born and for me to perform it with conviction, but people's interpretation of it is everything.
There's an imperative to writing.
It's an existential imperative for me.
If I'm not writing, I feel like I'm dying.
Just being in that state of receptivity to receive what the incoming song or melody or lyric or subject matter... and then getting out of the way to some degree so that it can move through me.
And it used to be captured on tape.
Now it's captured on digital ether.
