Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipMy art practice has expanded while being here at the Institute of American Indian Art.
My exhibition is about reflecting on the ancestral#teachings that come from our grandparents, our great-grandparents, but then how how do# we put that forward?
How do we continue that into the next generations?
These are stars#that they they offer guidance to my people.
They show us when we have our ceremonies, what#time of year it is, what season we're in.
So, by the way positioned, they guide us.
Then you#look in the portal, you see yourself in the stars, you see yourself with the ancestors.
And I#like the idea of having like a circle mirror, the circle of life continuing.
When you look in each direction, that is both learning and teaching.
So you reach#out and hold her hand so she can guide you.
But you turn around, you hold her hand to help#her.
And I love how like she's stepping over the line just like how she did step over the#line.
So the gold framing, it's signifying this moment.
It's signifying right now.
So#our youth, they're stepping into right now.
They're stepping into this knowledge whereas she's# moving forward from it.
It's about sustaining sustaining the life and sustaining the culture.
Exhibiting and being a part of galleries and museums it's important because future relatives#are going to be coming here and they're going to recognize that their relative came here before# them and it's just to help encourage them.
It's my goal to motivate and encourage#the younger artists in my tribe to show them that we all can make beautiful#things.
I want them to see that, you know, we can do something with#that art.
We can want more with art.
