Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - The wider cast on this show is a source of wonderment.
Like a real set of people telling you their real story.
- Maya works at the hedge fund with Alice, and Alice is kind of like her hero.
- Hi, Jack, I'm Maya, Alice's assistant.
- Hi, Maya.
- We've got a few things for you.
Come on, guys.
- She's not really afraid of her or intimidated by her.
- Wanna talk about anything?
- No, thank you.
- 'Cause we can if you want.
I am your friend.
- You can't be my friend, 'cause you're someone I pay.
- Maya really likes Jack.
I think she sees that he's a very kind person and someone who Alice would really need.
- What's next for you, Jack?
- What do you mean?
- What I mean is, I'm not an idiot.
I've paid attention.
- I don't know.
Spend the next 40 years stamping out my naive romantic idealism.
- Don't.
- I think that was a really beautiful scene, 'cause it's like two people that don't really know each other that well and they kind of bonded over their love for this person, Alice.
- She didn't say goodbye.
- She doesn't like goodbyes.
She's in love with you.
You idiot!
- [Sunil] Paul doesn't like the idea of Jack and Alice.
- Have you lost your mind?
- You know, he's always giving the sort of advice which means that Jack should just leave the whole situation alone and do something a bit simpler.
- I have two choices here.
The path of acceptance or the path of anger.
- Anger.
Anger every time.
- Jack and Paul, they feel like they've been best friends since they were 15.
- Lie.
Lie like a rug.
- They just know each other.
They know what makes each other tick.
They know what makes each other laugh.
- But as I tell Donna every night before we have sex, past performance is no guarantee of future results.
- You still have sex every night?
(Jack laughing) - I think Paul sees in Jack flaws that Jack doesn't recognize in himself.
- You all right, Jack?
- Sorry, I am good, yes.
- He's not, he's not all right.
He's broken and ruined.
- Paul and Donna's relationship is basically just so easy.
It just happened so easily and quickly.
Paul and Donna are just constantly having a great time.
Whereas Jack and Alice is very much the opposite.
- Either you take her out for dinner or I will kill you with my bare hands.
- Well, no, don't look at me.
I'll hide the body.
- They might not look like family members to each other, but that's how our lives are.
We have closeness in all sorts of different ways with people.
