How to Watch Our Hometown

So two years ago, we were spending time with our son's pitching coach.
He was working with the Nashua Silver Knights as their coach and also doing one on one coaching for pitchers and also making bats out of his garage.
So he asked us if we had any use for a wood lathe.
He knew that we worked with lathe and we really didn't need a wood lathe, but we were really intrigued by the idea of making bats.
We did hit the ground running.
There was a lot to learn and a lot to figure out.
We knew where we needed to go.
We knew what bats needed to be made.
And it was really helpful starting the business, knowing we had orders.
We had a few Legion teams that wanted bats and we have the Nashua Silver Knights.
So they gave us feedback.
They worked with us and we got off quick.
My husband's great great grandfather started our main business, the big shoe company.
His name was Walter Henry Bagshaw.
So my husband Aaron did a lot of research.
He's done a ton over the years, but he actually found his great, great grandfather's naturalization papers.
And it's his actual signature from when he became a U.S. citizen that we've used on the Walter about logo.
The big thing that we've done recently is opening up a training center.
We were getting feedback from our customers and the teams we were working with.
They really needed somewhere during the winter to do their training and we happened to be in a 100,000 square foot mill building that had some unused space with a really nice light.
So we've put in a 10,000 square foot training center.
We opened in November and we've been welcoming a bunch of different teams.
We do clinics with younger kids.
We have some adult leagues that are in a couple of college programs are using us and we also offer a membership and drop ins.
So for 40 bucks for an hour, you can come in with a friend or two and use our hitting cage.
You can also use the entire facility if you're a team.
And included in that is a weight room and a workout area with the wall.
Staffing for manufacturing has been hard, but we have kids banging down our door.
Everyone wants to work at the Walter Bat Training Center.
It's just a really great environment.
We put our core values front and center.
There, community mentorship and accountability.
And you can really feel that when you come into the center.
So it's a really positive place where teens want to hang out.
And if they can get paid to be in a place that they love seeing their peers, a lot of them are baseball and softball players, but not all of them.
We have a few non athletes are non baseball players that work with us as well.
In the day to day work I do at the Bagshaw company, I don't get to interact a ton with people in the community, but through the training center, we've been able to interact with a ton of people, a lot more work with with nonprofits, with fundraisers.
We've worked with the Front Door Agency and United Way getting a lot more involved with the chamber.
I mean, that's such a vital, vital part of the business community here.
But just being able to talk to coaches and, you know, the people that are coming into swing bats, if they're not students, say, you know, they work in the community and just learning what other people do and what brings them into town has been really fun.
Baseball has been very, very unifying for us and our employees and we've had a lot of Hispanic teams and as well using the facilities.
So it's just good to see it be, you know, our training center is becoming a melting pot as well of ages and ethnicities, which is great.
