I started at Nashua Community College almost 20 years ago, and I just remember the environment as being so welcoming.
Starting to work in Nashua and meeting with the students multicultural students, students from different cultures and countries.
And I just love doing that work.
So I was very excited to be in my new position there.
So that was my first memory was just I was overjoyed and I felt like that was the position that I always wanted the job.
I always wanted, and I felt like I could really connect and work with people from other cultures, help them achieve their goals, continue their education and whatever goals they had for themselves, you know.
So one of the great things about Nashua Community College is that we look at the student as a whole person, not just as a student, but that we understand that they have a life, a family, a job.
Concerns outside of just their schoolwork.
And we try to work with them holistically to make sure that their needs are being met, not just that they are signed up for a class, taking the class successfully complete the class.
We want to make sure that the schedule works for their life.
We want to make sure that they have other resources of support to make sure that if they have any issues, challenges or concerns outside of their academic life, that we can connect them with the resources that they need.
Talk to people in the community.
I work so closely with other organizations who are just wonderful.
Those include.
One Greater Nashua, which is part of United Way.
We also work with Welcoming New Hampshire, which is a great organization across the state, doing the work of promoting a better life for immigrants, newcomers and refugees.
And I think that really creates such a environment of positivity.
And in Nashua in particular.
So we're very excited in Nashua that we have a lot of diversity and that diversity is welcomed.
But we recently became a certified welcoming city, which is an exciting designation that we received through completing and having many resources in place to support a welcoming environment, a sense of belonging here in Nashua.
So it's something that we have a great deal of pride about, and we know that we're doing this work.
But to be a certified, welcoming city, it just has confirmed, you know what we know who we, who are doing the work already know about Nashua.
And so it's very exciting.
