I love textile.
I love the story behind textile.
And in one of my other lives, I was actually an employee at the American Textile History Museum in Lowell.
I was in their education department, and I was also in charge of creating their Family Learning Center.
So doing exhibits and doing activities in their family learning center because of that background.
And after my teaching career ended, I thought, I'm going to do what I really want to do now.
I'm going to go to the Historical Society and see if they need any help.
And I'm knocking on the door.
They answered the door very graciously and they say, And what's your interest?
I said, Well, textile fabrics, textile, clothing, costume.
They said, Do we have the place for you?
So I bring it downstairs to their textile collection, which is enormous for a place this size they have a phenomenal textile collection, beautiful costume, historic, you know, historic dress.
And as I'm looking around at this, this huge collection of stuff, I'm thinking, oh, my God, there's no way I'm going to be able to analyze and catalog this stuff within my lifetime.
So I immediately called my friend Janice, who who has a textile background and said, Janice, I have this job for us .
And fortunately, she loves textiles as much as I do.
So we started cataloging and analyzing the historic costume.
It just it the collection is amazing.
And as we're analyzing this stuff, we're thinking, you know, this is a garment that has a story.
And frequently the stories were related to weddings.
This is another garment that has a story.
And as we're just analyzing and cataloging this stuff, we're thinking this is this is an exhibit.
And so that's how we all came together with producing the exhibit.
And as you know, I mean, even though the exhibit that we're still down cellar, which is what the textile collection is, we're in the basement madly cataloging, analyzing garments, getting ready for our next exhibit.
The next project that we're going to do is in collaboration with the city of Nashua.
The city of Nashua has an intact canal system.
I don't know if you're aware of that, but our canal system has not been chopped up.
It is an intact canal, and the celebration for that is going to be in 2024 to celebrate the opening of the canal and the Nashua Manufacturing.
And in our collection, we have a wonderful array of costume or garment historic garments from the 1820s and 1830s.
And that's going to be our next focus.
