Resourceful and resilient.
I've been teaching for 27 years.
I did my student teaching here at Nashua High, and then I came back three years later, and I've taught here for 24 years since Nashua was home.
And Nashua has been home to my family for generations.
And Nashua was a very special place because it is such a unique community.
So I was born here.
My both my parents were born here, my great grandmother was born here.
So it's a I guess it's life long connection.
Campanella & Newcomb,.. And these were two men who who played baseball for the Negro Leagues, and they were trying to break the color barrier throughout baseball.
In 1947, in that era.
1946, 47.
It wasn't just Brooklyn.
It wasn't just the Dodgers and what sometimes gets left out is the fact they were trying to do it when they were trying to figure out how to do this.
They were offering these men contracts.
In some cases, they made less than they would have in the Negro Leagues.
And they started off with some place in the Midwest, but it really wasn't safe for them.
And they were told to come back here.
Now, it's a typical situation.
They're baseball players.
I believe one of them still has the record for the longest home run out of Holman Stadium.
They were amazing players and they were able to break it here.
Felt very comfortable here.
Unfortunately, Campanella, he passed away much too young after an accident and subsequent health problems.
But Newcomb, I think, passed away in the last two years and up to the end he would always talk about Nashua and basically say that it was one of the places that they felt totally comfortable that he and his he and his teammate would easily talk about Nashua from then on.
It was just a special place in what was going on there.
Come visit and see what we have to offer that it's not just a small city in the southern part of New Hampshire with touches of Massachusetts border.
We're a city that has an awful lot to offer, an awful lot to participate in, a lot to be able to give.
And a city that would like to have new people come in, it would welcome them.
